From Seoul, take a train from Cheongnyangni station to Taebaek on the Mugunghwa train. The train continues to Gangneung city. The trip takes 3 hours and 50 minutes.

Taebaek-si is quite small, therefore transportation around the city core can be done mostly by walking. Places outside the downtown area can be reached by city bus, taxi, or car. There is no car rental available near the bus and train terminals. The train and bus terminal are located beside each other. The main downtown area is a 5-10 minute walk south from these terminals. Taebaek-san (Mt. Taebaek) is about a ₩10,000 taxi ride or single bus ride away.
